The low-arch bridge was designed by Aurecon, a well-established South African engineering firm.

Kipay Investments (Congolese Independent Power Producer) is investigating a hydroelectric plant proposed on the site of Sombwe in Mitwaba territory on the Lufira River. It is envisaged that a dam with a height ranging between 70 m to 100 m high will be required at this site to provide sufficient head and yield for the power generation purposes foreseen.
